Who is The Carbon Pig?

The Carbon Pig is one of us. He is green, but is still wearing that carbon-emitting rocket pack! As imperfect creatures, we forget our continuous, incidental, and often unavoidable role in creating environmental problems. While we like to consider ourselves ‘green’ or ‘environmentally conscious’, we are still just Carbon Pigs sometimes. It’s like this:Tom drives his pickup when he could take the train, Katie buys Styrofoam cups when recycled paper ones cost the same, and Al Gore lectures about climate change while flying around in a private jet (Luckily Al buys Carbon Offsets to try and minimize his impact).

It is natural that each decision will not always be the best or the ‘greenest’. Yet it is in the balance of these decisions we make every day that define how the future will look. In order to move forward on our green ideals, we must first admit that we are each indeed The Carbon Pig- an imperfect creature striving to make everyday conscious decisions that benefit the earth, while acknowledging and understanding how and when we come up short; working to make better and more informed choices.
